Tissue-specific factors influence whether cells are susceptible to transformation by erbB oncogenes. Avian fibroblasts resist transformation by insertionally activated c-erbB (IAc-erbB), whereas erythroblasts are transformed by this mutant of the epidermal growth factor receptor.
