BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) is a multifactorial neurodegenerative disorder involving the interaction of genetic and environmental factors. Dysregulation of the fibrinolytic system, particularly an increase in plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) levels, may contribute to Alzheimer's pathology.
