Introduction: Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are autoimmune, systemic diseases that affect skeletal muscles. The causes are not fully understood. IIMs present with proximal weakness, elevated muscle enzymes (primarily creatine phosphokinase, or CPK), and multiorgan involvement, often pulmonary.
