BACKGROUND: A fatty acid desaturase (FADS) insertion-deletion (Indel) polymorphism (rs66698963) influences the expression of FADS1, which controls the synthesis of n-6 highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) arachidonic acid (AA).
