Specific C-terminal nucleophosmin (NPM) mutations are related to the acute myeloid leukaemia and cause mistargeting of mutated NPM (NPMmut) to the cytoplasm. Consequently, multiple NPM-interacting partners, e.g., the tumour suppressor p53, become also mislocalized.
