Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins are post-transcriptionally modified with GPI and anchored to the plasma membrane. GPI is attached to nascent proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum by the GPI transamidase complex, which consists of PIGT, PIGK, GPAA1, PIGU, and PIGS.
