Azole drugs are the most frequently used antifungal agents. The pathogenic yeast Candida glabrata acquires resistance to azole drugs via single amino acid substitution mutations eliciting a gain-of-function (GOF) hyperactive phenotype in the Pdr1 transcription factor.
