The intrinsically disordered protein α-synuclein (aSN) forms insoluble aggregates in the brains of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Cytotoxicity is attributed to a soluble aSN oligomeric species that permeabilizes membranes significantly more than monomers and fibrils.
