Ionizing radiation (IR) is a mutagen that promotes tumorigenesis in multiple exposure contexts. One severe consequence of IR is the development of second malignant neoplasms (SMNs), a radiotherapy-associated complication in survivors of cancers, particularly pediatric cancers.
