Congenital malformations, such as neural tube defects (NTDs) and congenital heart disease (CHD), cause significant fetal mortality and childhood morbidity. NTDs are a common congenital anomaly, and are typically induced by higher maternal homocysteine (Hcy) levels and abnormal folate metabolism.
