Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract. It arises in the stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum and esophagus. KIT gene mutation is a feature of GIST, in addition to PDGFRA gene mutation.
