Alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase 2 (AGXT2; EC 2.6.1.44) degrades asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), a competitive inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthase. Increased ADMA, reduced NO, and hypertension are shown in Agxt2 knockout mice.
