The anaphase inhibitor securin plays a crucial role in regulating the timing of sister chromatid separation during mitosis. When sister chromatid pairs become bioriented, the E3 ligase anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) ubiquitylates securin for proteolysis, triggering sister chromatid separation.
