A recent study investigating the pharmacokinetics of fentanyl in Sprague-Dawley rats suggested fentanyl to be a substrate of rat organic anion-transporting polypeptide Oatp. In human beings, the most important OATP for the pharmacokinetics of many drugs is OATP1B1.
