Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded latent membrane protein-1 (LMP1) is a transmembrane protein essential for EBV-induced immortalization and transformation of B cells. Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) triggers somatic hypermutation and recombination, in turn contributing to lymphomagenesis.
