Human UDP-glucose 6-dehydrogenase (hUGDH) catalyzes the biosynthetic oxidation of UDP-glucose into UDP-glucuronic acid. The catalytic reaction proceeds in two NAD(+)-dependent steps via covalent thiohemiacetal and thioester enzyme intermediates.
