Amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Aβ is generated by proteolysis of β-amyloid precursor protein (APP) and is cleared by enzyme-mediated degradation and phagocytosis by microglia and astrocytes.
