Chalcone synthase (CHS) is a key enzyme of flavonoid biosynthesis in higher plants, catalyzing the stepwise decarboxylative condensation of three acetate units from malonyl-CoA with p-coumaroyl-CoA to yield 2',4,4',6'-tetrahydroxychalcone (THC).
