Cutaneous human papillomavirus type 8 (HPV8) is carcinogenic in patients with epidermodysplasia verruciformis. Transgenic mice with the complete early region (CER) of HPV8 spontaneously developed papillomas, dysplasia and squamous cell carcinomas of the skin.
