Monoclonal antibodies for human thrombomodulin, a cofactor for thrombin-catalyzed activation of protein C, were prepared and their epitopes characterized. All six antibodies (MFTM-1-MFTM-6) bound to an elastase-digested active fragment of thrombomodulin, which contains six consecutive EGF domains.
