A Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain deficient in phosphatidylethanolamine methyltransferase that exhibits choline auxotrophy grew in the presence of dioctanoyl phosphatidylcholine (diC8PC). We isolated and characterized mutants defective in growth in the diC8PC-containing medium.
