The BipA protein of Escherichia coli has intriguing similarities to the elongation factor subfamily of GTPases, including EF-Tu, EF-G, and LepA. In addition, phenotypes of a bipA deletion mutant suggest that BipA is involved in regulation of a variety of pathways.
