UDP-glucuronosyltransferases contribute to the detoxification of drugs by forming water soluble beta-D-glucopyranosiduronic acids. The human UGT1A3 protein catalyzes the glucuronidation of estrogens, bile acids and xenobiotics including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and lipid lowering drugs.
