The DNA sequence of 88-100 map units of mouse adenovirus type 1 (MAV-1) was determined. One translational open reading frame showed 48% sequence similarity to a human adenovirus type 2 early region 4 protein. Based on the protein similarity, genome location, and transcriptional polarity, we concluded that this region of MAV-1 corresponds to early region 4.
