BACKGROUND: CTLA4 is an inhibitory receptor expressed on a subset of T lymphocytes. Single nucleotide polymorphisms of the CTLA4 gene have been implicated in autoimmune diseases, including autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis.
