BACKGROUND: The proinflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and IL-1beta (interleukin 1beta) have a role in neuroinflammation, and functional polymorphisms in the TNF-alpha and IL-1beta genes may affect susceptibility to Parkinson disease (PD).
