The adenosine triphosphate-sensitive K(+) (K(ATP)) channels are gated by several metabolites, whereas the gating mechanism remains unclear. Kir6.2, a pore-forming subunit of the K(ATP) channels, has all machineries for ligand binding and channel gating.
