von Hippel Lindau (VHL) disease is a hereditary cancer syndrome caused by biallelic inactivation of the VHL tumor suppressor gene. The most widely known function of VHL is to limit normoxic protein expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-alpha (HIF-alpha).
