OBJECTIVE: Functional single nucleotide polymorphisms within the ectoplasmic domain of the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) gene have been shown to result in an endotoxin-hyporesponsive phenotype and aberrant signal transduction for bacterial agonists.
