Several protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) expressed in insulin sensitive-tissues are proposed to attenuate insulin action and could act as key regulators of the insulin receptor (IR) signaling pathway. Among these PTPs, RPTPsigma is expressed in relatively high levels in insulin-target tissues.
