S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (SAH) is a key enzyme in the maintenance of methylation homeostasis in eukaryotes because it is needed to metabolize the by-product of transmethylation reactions, S-adenosylhomocysteine (AdoHcy), which causes by-product inhibition of methyltransferases (MTase's).
