Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are involved in recognition of and response to Plasmodium falciparum. In 304 primiparous Ghanaian women, we examined whether common TLR4 and TLR9 polymorphisms influence susceptibility to and manifestation of malaria during pregnancy.
