The plant lectin wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) has previously been used to select more than ten different glycosylation-defective phenotypes in a variety of mammalian somatic cells. Three WGA-resistant phenotypes have now been obtained spontaneously from baby hamster kidney (BHK) cells.
