In mammalian liver, proteolysis is regulated by the cellular hydration state in a microtubule- and p38(MAPK) (p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase)-dependent fashion. Osmosensing in liver cells towards proteolysis is achieved by activation of integrin receptors.
