The detoxification enzyme sulfotransferase1A1 (SULT1A1) is implicated in the inactivation of estrogens and the activation of promutagens and procarcinogens. SULT1A1 activity varies among individuals, and this difference in phenotype is, in part, controlled by genetic polymorphism (Arg-->His in codon 213).
