The escort protein SCAP transports SREBPs from ER to Golgi where the active domains are released to activate genes for fatty acid (FA) and cholesterol synthesis. Mice with conditional SCAP deficiency in liver (L-Scap-) manifest marked reductions in hepatic lipid synthesis.
