OBJECTIVES: The human immunodeficiency virus protease inhibitor nelfinavir is substrate of polyspecific drug transporters encoded by ABCB1 (P-glycoprotein), ABCC1 (MRP1) and ABCC2 (MRP2), and an inhibitor of BCRP, encoded by ABCG2.
