Eukaryotic cells utilize DcpS, a scavenger decapping enzyme, to degrade the residual cap structure following 3'-5' mRNA decay, thereby preventing the premature decapping of the capped long mRNA and misincorporation of methylated nucleotides in nucleic acids.
