Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder of unknown aetiology. There is significant evidence for a genetic component in the pathogenesis of this disorder. A region on chromosome 1 has been identified as a susceptibility locus. The leptin receptor has been mapped to a similar region, further upstream of this susceptibility locus.
