The transcription factor TFIIA is encoded by two genes, TFIIAalphabeta and TFIIAgamma. In higher eukaryotes, the TFIIAalphabeta is translated as a precursor and undergoes proteolytic cleavage; the regulation and biological implications of the cleavage have remained elusive.
