In budding yeast, the nuclear periphery forms a subcompartment in which telomeres cluster and SIR proteins concentrate. To identify the proteins that mediate chromatin anchorage to the nuclear envelope, candidates were fused to LexA and targeted to an internal GFP-tagged chromosomal locus.
