Phosphatidylinositol phosphates (PIPs, e.g. PIP2) and long-chain acyl-CoA esters (e.g. oleoyl-CoA) are potent activators of KATP channels that are thought to link KATP channel activity to the cellular metabolism of PIPs and fatty acids.
