Sardinian alcohol non-preferring (sNP) rats, selected for their low ethanol preference and consumption, carry a point mutation (R100Q) in the gene coding for GABA(A) receptor alpha(6) subunit, which becomes more sensitive to diazepam-evoked GABA currents.
