Ligand-mediated activation of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) results in autophosphorylation of both the receptor catalytic domain and noncatalytic regions of the cytoplasmic domain. Catalytic domain phosphorylation leads to activation and potentiation of receptor kinase activity.
