Germline mutations of the LKB1 tumor suppressor gene lead to Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS), with a predisposition to cancer. LKB1 encodes for a nuclear and cytoplasmic serine/threonine kinase, which is inactivated by mutations observed in PJS patients.
