Myosin phosphatase negatively regulates nonmuscle myosin II through dephosphorylation of the myosin regulatory light chain (MRLC). Its regulatory myosin-binding subunit, MBS, is responsible for regulating the catalytic subunit in response to upstream signals and for determining the substrate specificity.
