Farnesyl diphosphate (FPP), an intermediate of the sterol biosynthetic pathway, is used by farnesyl transferase to farnesylate, among others, the Ras proteins, and by geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase to produce geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP).
