Expression of tetA(C) in Escherichia coli confers resistance to tetracycline as well as sensitivity to nickel and cadmium salts, lipophilic chelating agents, and aminoglycoside antibiotics. In this report we determine that high-level expression of tetA(C) also confers an osmotic sensitivity.
