The yeast GNA1 gene encodes glucosamine-6-phosphate acetyltransferase which catalyses the reaction of glucosamine 6-phosphate with acetyl-CoA to form N-acetylglucosamine 6-phosphate, a fundamental precursor in UDP-N-acetylglucosamine biosynthesis.
