BACKGROUND: Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at the ATM gene (mutated in ataxia telangiectasia [AT] patients) and ATM protein deficiency occur in 14% and 34%, respectively, of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
